Privacy Policy

      TL;DR — PIDKill collects only your Mac's hardware ID to manage trials and licenses. We never collect process data, usage analytics, or personal information.
    

Data We Collect

To manage the free trial and license activation, PIDKill collects and transmits the following:

Hardware Device ID — Your Mac's unique hardware identifier (IOPlatformUUID), used to tie the 3-day trial and license to your specific machine. This prevents trial reuse after reinstallation.
Trial start date — A timestamp recording when your trial began. Stored both locally and on our server, linked to your Device ID.
License key — When you activate a license, the key is sent to our server along with your Device ID for verification.

We do not collect your name, email, IP address, or any other personally identifiable information through the app itself.

Data We Don't Collect

PIDKill does not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:

Process names, PIDs, or any information about running applications
Your target process list or kill log history
Usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry
Keystroke data, clipboard contents, or screen recordings

Local Storage

The following data is stored locally on your Mac and never transmitted:

Target process list — stored locally in UserDefaults
Kill log — stored locally in UserDefaults
App preferences (language, scan interval) — stored locally in UserDefaults

Trial and license data is stored locally in macOS Keychain for security.

Network Requests

PIDKill makes the following network requests to api.pidkill.com:

Trial check (on app launch) — Sends your Device ID to our server to verify or record your trial start date. This prevents trial reuse after reinstalling the app.
License activation — When you enter a license key, sends the key and Device ID for verification.
License verification (on app launch) — If licensed, sends Device ID to confirm the license is still valid.

These requests contain only the Device ID and/or license key. No other data is transmitted. When offline, PIDKill falls back to locally stored data and continues to work normally.

Server-Side Storage

Our server (api.pidkill.com) stores only:

Device ID → Trial start timestamp mapping
Device ID → License key mapping (after activation, up to 2 devices per license)

No personal information, IP addresses, or usage data is logged or retained on our server.

Third-Party Services

License purchases are processed by Gumroad, a third-party payment provider. Their privacy policy governs the purchase transaction. PIDKill itself never handles your payment information.

Export & Import

When you export your target list, it is saved as a local JSON file on your Mac. This file is never uploaded anywhere. Importing reads a local file. No network activity is involved.

macOS Permissions

PIDKill requires no special macOS permissions (no Accessibility, no Full Disk Access). It uses standard POSIX process APIs available to all applications.

Changes to This Policy

If we ever change this policy, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above. We will never start collecting data without clearly notifying users first.
